WHAT WE DON'T DO (and who does!)

How much do alterations typically cost?

Small repairs start at $5, and pant hems start at $14.  Call us and we will be happy to give you an estimate, if possible, over the phone!

What is a hem alteration?

A hem alteration shortens or lengthens your pants, dress, shorts, or shirt.   We specialize in creative solutions if you don't have enough material to lengthen your clothing, or if you need to shorten your clothing but the clothing can't be cut (you want to wear someone else's clothing and only need a temporary shorter hem, for instance).

What are basic alterations?

Basic alterations include shortening your clothing, taking in or letting out waists in pants, putting on buttons, repairing tears in clothing, and shortening clothing at the shoulders.  Alterations become more complicated if your clothing has a lining, or if the area that needs work also has ruffles, bows, beading, embroidery, or applique.

How long should an alteration take?

The answer is "it depends!".  Your return date depends upon how much clothing is in front of your clothing.  Your alteration might take only 20 minutes, but if there are 80 hours of clothing in front of your ticket, your alteration will be done in two weeks.  Some alterations are quick, and we can do them between larger jobs so you get them back in a day or two, while other alterations have to stay in the line until it's their turn to be worked on.

However, if you need your clothing right away, we do have a rush fee that allows you to jump to the head of the line!

Should you tip your seamstress?

While tips are not necessary, we love getting them, for two reasons:  first, a tip is the quickest way to let us know you are extremely pleased with our work, and it makes us feel really good about our work.  Second, every tip we get goes into our Christmas party jar, and at the end of the year, we use the money to throw ourselves a Christmas party.

We understand your investment in your clothing.  That's why we honestly appraise your clothing then insure, through careful alteration, that your clothing fits you for your best look.
